Preparing to Travel

You have an employee who is ready to travel to Costa Rica for dental care, but maybe a bit apprehensive about the entire process. That's ok! We're here to help. Here are your next steps:

If You Have Dental Insurance

  1. Check your dental plan to find out exactly what is covered and what isn't. You'll find the number on the back of your employee's insurance ID card. Keep in mind, coverage for dental care you receive outside the United States may be very different than if you received it here at home.
  2. Ask if your employee will need any precertifications or preauthorizations. Get details on how to get them, if necessary.
  3. When you talk to your dental plan representative, take notes. Write down the person's name and the date in case you need to reference it later. Ask any questions you need to understand your exact benefits.
  4. Make sure your employee has a current insurance ID card. Patients should always carry ID cards during their trips.
